Official Source
A high-ranking Russian general has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The attack took place on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
The committee mentioned that one possible explanation involves the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has remained silent.
Location of the Incident
Personnel have been dispatched to the scene, which is understood to be in a southern district of the metropolis.
Reports suggest the explosion happened in a car park adjacent to a residential building.
History of Assaults
Since the start of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military personnel have been attacked within Moscow.
This most recent event follows other serious incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a Ukrainian source previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.
The war has witnessed covert operations extending into the streets of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains ongoing.
