Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
