Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
