LA Erupts in Celebration as Dodgers Claim Second World Series Victory
The City of Angels experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers clinched a thrilling seven-game World Series championship. Fans worldwide joined local residents in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Local events featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage depict countless of Los Angeles residents flooding downtown streets, many carrying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the team emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Celebrations began prior to the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler welcome at the celebration. Recordings from the event seem to depict him walking onstage to a mix of cheers and jeers, with jeers interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An approximate 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, fans this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
