Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
