From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
