The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
