The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
