Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's mass shooting in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant persisted following the discharge by local law enforcement of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies publicly, stating: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

His name was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine other people were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a authority told the Associated Press.

Police that raided the hotel found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the suspect was arrested, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, friends, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”
